Tony Gennaro is a percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, improviser, and music educator who embraces collaboration, exploration, and experimentation to pursue new musical frontiers. He has been an active contributor to the music communities of Los Angeles and the Bay Area. Gennaro has participated in major performances spanning genres of classical, jazz, rock, free-improvisation, experimental, and world music. His artistic practice comprises a balanced mix of live performance, recording, composition, improvisation, and music education. His teaching philosophy is rooted in a growth mindset. I believe that the most powerful thing that a music teacher can do is empower students to guide their musical development. Musicians play an important role in our culture. His hope is for all his students to continue playing music throughout their life. He encourages students to be actively and meaningfully engaged in their music-making. Music instruction in his classes are influenced from musical traditions from across the world.
