PLAYING GOALS: WEEK 6
You've now found a few sounds you can make with objects from around your house. Find a picture or a video of a place that you like or just imagine yourself there, then try to to recreate the feeling of that place with your found sounds. Record about 1 minute of your sound and send it to me!
You can use any voice memo app, Garage Band, Ableton (if you have it), Quicktime, or use this easy online voice recorder: https://online-voice-recorder.com/
Simply follow the link, click the red circle, allow the website to access your microphone, and then record your audio. When you are happy with your recording, click save to download the file.

PLAYING GOALS: WEEK 2
Your assignment for this week is to watch "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" from the Disney movie Fantasia. This is a film from 1940 that uses pieces of classical music to accompany short films. Upload a short reflection, either as a 7-8 sentence written reflection or a 45-60 second video clip.
Here is a link to the clip (~10min): https://video.disney.com/watch/sorcerer-s-apprentice-fantasia-4ea9ebc01a74ea59a5867853
Watch the scene twice- first, just for fun. The second time, listen to the music carefully- do the instruments represent certain characters? What is the mood? Can you tell which instrument is playing what part? If you had to make a film to this piece of music, what would it be about?

PLAYING GOALS: WEEK 1
Your task–should you choose to accept it–is to find a video and write a short report of 8-10 sentences on one of the following great cellists: Camille Thomas, Stjepan Hauser and Luka Sulic, Anne Gastinel, Myung-Wha Chung, Sol Gabetta, Mischa Maisky, Tina Guo, Kian Soltani, Antonio Meneses, Sheku Kanneh-Mason. Please include a link to your video.
Instructions:
1. Find a video of your cellist. Write down the title of the piece, the composer, and the names of the other performers in the video (if it's an orchestra, just say which orchestra).
2. What is something you notice about your cellist's playing?
3. What is one question you have about your cellist's playing?
4. Try to answer some of the following questions: what time period is the piece they are playing? What historical events were going on at that time? Where is the composer from? Where is the cellist from? How old is the cellist? Is it a piece for solo cello? Small group? Orchestra?
