PLAYING GOALS: WEEK 8 (MAY 17 - MAY 23)
The composition project from a couple weeks ago was a hit, so I figured we'd do it again! This version is a little longer, and gives you the option to use any of the notes of the D Major Scale. Watch the video attached to this assignment to get in-depth directions for completing it on your computer or tablet. I've also included a print version that can be done on paper, if you have a printer at home!
Continue to practice "Bingo" this week, too! |

PLAYING GOALS: WEEK 7 (MAY 10 - MAY 16)
This week, we're working on "Bingo"! We're sharpening a LOT of skills with this one--slurring, string crossings, 4th fingers, and low 2s, to name a few! I definitely don't expect you to walk away from the video with everything perfect the first time. Come back to it a few times during the week, and watch how much easier it gets!
The practice-along video and the PDF of the music are attached to this assignment. Happy practicing :) https://safeyoutube.net/w/dcbD |

PLAYING GOALS: WEEK 6 (May 4 - may 9)
This week's assignment is a composition project, so you'll be writing your own music to play! Watch the video attached to this assignment to get in-depth directions for completing it on your computer or tablet. When you click on the PowerPoint, it should pull up a Google Slides window that you can complete the work in, without having to print anything! Please let me know if you run into any tech difficulties with getting it done or turned in!
Continue to practice with the play along tracks from Weeks 4 & 5, too! "City of Angels" and "Smooth Sailing" are in the Playing Goals for Week 4. "Hooked In" and "Eighth Note Twirl" are under the Playing Goals for Week 5. Click Here for Google Slide Window |

PLAYING GOALS: WEEK 5 (April 26 - MAY 2)
More play-along tracks this week! In "Hooked In," we're working again with hooked bowings. When you get to the 2nd page, you'll use Low 2s on the E string. In "Eighth Note Twirl," we're working on getting a really crisp, sticky sound on the eighth notes. For this, it'll be helpful to use a little bit less bow than you normally would.
There are demo videos of me playing the melody for each piece at Speed 1. Watch my bow carefully! In both pieces, watch out for the bow lifts—that way you'll start each section on a down bow, just like I do. Just like last week, start by playing the Open string warm-up exercise AND the melody at Speed 1. Work your way up to Speed 3 throughout the week :) |

PLAYING GOALS: WEEK 4 (APRIL 19 - APRIL 25)
This week, we're working even more on slurred and hooked bowings. In "Smooth Sailing," we're focused on slurred bowings. In "City of Angels," we're focused on hooked bowings.
Instead of a full practice-along video for this week, you'll find play-along audio tracks attached to this assignment. Each song has tracks at 3 different speeds. Practice the Prep Exercises and songs at Speed 1 first, then work your way up to Speed 3 throughout the week. If you're having any trouble figuring out what to do, or how to practice, watch the video posted on the Stream homepage! ![]()

PLAYING GOALS: WEEK 3 (APRIL 12 - APRIL 18)
This week, we'll be working on some new skills with the bow—ties, hooks, and slurs! Watch the Part 1 and Part 2 videos attached to the assignment. They'll prepare you for playing your D Major Scale & Arpeggio with hooked and slurred bowings. If you're still having trouble with the fingerings for the D Major Scale & Arpeggio, review with the play-along video from your Week 1 Playing Goals before you jump into Part 2 of this week's assignment.
We'll work on these bowings in your private lessons, but you should also keep working on Spy Guy, Bluebird's Song, and Frere Jacques as you practice throughout the week! |
|
PLAYING GOALS: WEEK 2 (April 5 - April 11)
This week, we'll be working on "Frere Jacques" and "Bluebird's Song". You'll find practice-along videos and sheet music attached to this assignment.
In "Frere Jacques," we're focusing on strengthening our pinkies (4th finger). Make sure your 4th finger sounds like the same pitch as your open A string. In "Bluebird's Song," we're continuing to practice our low 2s, and getting comfortable with the big stretch from low 2 to 3rd finger. Remember, the downward arrows over the notes mean that we place our finger lower than the tape.
When you're practicing along with me, always pause and rewind as many times as you need to before going on to the next section of the video. We'll work on both songs in your private lessons this week!

Playing Goals: Week 1 (March 25 - April 4)
This week, we'll be working on a new song called "Spy Guy"! You'll find the music for this on the "Low 2s" sheet, at the bottom of the page. Our goal with this song is to strengthen our 2nd finger and to review the difference between High 2s and Low 2s. We'll also review our G, D, and A Major scales & arpeggios.
Use these videos to practice along with me for the next week and a half. It's okay if you aren't able to play along with the entire video right away! Just try to practice a little bit every day until you're able to play along with me. Remember, once you've got the D Major scale under your belt, you can use the exact same finger pattern to play your G Major scale & arpeggio (starting on the open G string) and your A Major scale & arpeggio (starting on the open A string). I'll ask to hear you play "Spy Guy" and one of the scales in your next private lesson. |
