Beginner/Intermediate Strings Teaching Artist: Violin and viola
Summary Position
We are seeking an Upper Strings Teaching Artist for our after-school program at an elementary school in Alameda, CA. The Upper Strings Teaching Artist will be responsible for teaching group lessons to students with various levels of experience in Violin and Viola and collaborating with Teaching Artist peers during ensemble rehearsals and performances.

Bay Area Music Project (BAMP) is an after-school music education program supporting the academic and social-emotional needs of children in lower income communities. We provide high-quality music instruction, engaging enrichment, and academic assistance regardless of abilities and circumstances. Our staff embraces both the social and musical mission of our program — they nurture both the individual person and the musician at the same time.
COVID-19 MODIFICATIONS: BAMP has continued to operate during the pandemic and returned to our partner school site in March 2021. All instruction for the 2021-22 school year will occur in person unless otherwise directed by Alameda County Public Health or the Center for Disease Control. Full vaccination status is highly recommended as our students are under the age of 12. All students and staff will maintain COVID safety protocols at all times and will be monitored daily for any signs of symptoms. Personal protective equipment will be available.

Notes: This position is a part-time, hourly position starting in August of 2021. Compensation commensurate with experience. Generous vacation schedule.

Position Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality instruction to violin students in grades 3-5 in group and/or individual setting
- Collaborate with the Music Director and fellow Teaching Artists to implement curriculum, pedagogy and values, musical arrangements, and plan combined performances
- Provide assessment of students’ musical and behavioral progress
- Act as a mentor to and build a positive rapport with each student
- Timely correspondence with director, school staff, and parents
- Attend occasional professional-development sessions and planning meetings
- Supervise children on breaks, during snack time, and during any non-teaching time as necessary or directed
- Assist with special events and field trips
- Has at least 1-year of experience teaching private and/or group violin or viola lessons
- Has a flexible schedule that allows for a commitment to the program for a school year
- Is creative, motivated and energetic with a passion for creating impact on the lives of young people through music
- Has exceptional classroom management skills and applies positive behavior support practices
- Has experience working with children from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds
- Is able to communicate comfortably and respectfully with students, families, and administration
- Strong organization skills, matched by a sense of humor and readiness to adapt
- Must pass live scan fingerprinting (background check) and provide negative TB tests
