and Community Through Music
Bay Area Music Project (BAMP) is excited to join the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academy community starting in August 2026! We are honored to partner with families, educators, and students to provide a high-quality after-school program where students in grades TK - 8th can explore music, discover their creativity, build meaningful relationships, and develop skills that will serve them for life.
Our partnership is rooted in the same values that make Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academy such a special place: a commitment to belonging, student growth, community, and helping every child reach their full potential. The school's vision of nurturing curious thinkers who are confident in themselves, their community, and their ability to create a more just world aligns closely with BAMP's mission of empowering young people through music and creative expression.
Program hours run from the end of the school day until 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. This includes all early release days scheduled throughout the school year. The program also operates during ELO-P intersession days, providing eligible students with continued enrichment, music education, and care during designated school breaks.

All Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academy students are eligible to enroll in Bay Area Music Project's after-school program.

Many families qualify to attend at no cost. Students may attend free of charge if they:
Qualify for free or reduced-price meals
Are English Learners
Are experiencing homelessness
Are in foster care
Families who do not qualify for no-cost enrollment are still welcome to participate through our fee-based program. BAMP also offers sliding-scale tuition assistance based on household income and demonstrated financial need.

BAMP is funded through California's After School Education and Safety (ASES), Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P), and California Child Care and Development Program (CCTR).
These state grants allow us to provide high-quality after-school programming, maintain low student-to-staff ratios, and serve many qualifying families at no cost. However, grant funding does not cover all program expenses, including instructional materials, enrichment activities, transportation, professional development, and staffing beyond what the grants reimburse.
Tuition paid by fee-based families helps bridge that gap, ensuring BAMP can continue providing exceptional programming while serving as many students as possible.

Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, BAMP is piloting a flexible enrollment model based on community feedback. Families may enroll their child 1–5 days per week, selecting a consistent weekly schedule that best meets their family's needs.
Flexible Enrollment Guidelines
Families select a consistent weekly schedule (1–5 days).
Families may request changes to their child's weekly schedule to accommodate recurring activities, such as seasonal sports. BAMP will do its best to accommodate these requests; however, schedule changes may affect your child's class schedule.
Drop-in attendance is not available.
An Early Release Authorization Form is required at enrollment to document your child's weekly attendance schedule.
Tuition is billed monthly.
Because music classes build progressively throughout the week, students attending fewer than three days per week may have limited instrument options, and placement in their first-choice instrument cannot be guaranteed.

Yes. Students who qualify under California's ASES/ELO-P and CCTR funding requirements attend at no cost.
For families who do not qualify for no-cost enrollment, BAMP offers sliding-scale tuition assistance based on household income and demonstrated financial need, as well as sibling discounts.
Scholarships are generally available at 25%, 50%, or 75% of tuition. We use the California Department of Education income guidelines and then work with families individually, recognizing that state income thresholds do not always reflect the cost of living in our communities.
Our goal is to ensure every family who wants to participate can do so.

Yes. Families enrolling more than one child receive a 10% tuition discount for each additional sibling enrolled in the program.

Your tuition supports much more than childcare. Students receive a comprehensive enrichment experience led by highly trained educators, professional teaching artists, and youth development staff who are dedicated to creating a safe, engaging, and inspiring environment each day. The program includes:
Healthy daily snacks
Homework support
Professional music instruction
Musical instruments, accessories, and sheet music
Arts and crafts supplies
Indoor and outdoor recreation
Digital music production software and technology
Guest artists and special workshops
Student performances and assemblies
Transportation to performances and educational field trips

California's ASES, ELO-P, and CCTR funding programs require:
Enrollment schedules to be documented in advance.
Daily attendance reporting.
Complete enrollment paperwork.
Compliance with required student-to-staff ratios.
Consistent attendance for grant reporting.
Because of these requirements, we cannot offer drop-in or hourly enrollment. Consistent attendance also allows us to build stable classroom communities and ensure students make meaningful connections throughout the year.

Required enrollment paperwork (for families receiving subsidized CCTR funding)

Because tuition is payment for child care and enrichment services, it is not tax-deductible as a charitable donation, even though Bay Area Music Project is a nonprofit organization.
However, many families may be eligible to claim qualifying child care expenses on their taxes. We provide annual payment receipts and our Employer Identification Number (EIN: 47-4460867) for fee-paying families. Please consult a tax professional regarding your individual tax situation.
