Kevin is a passionate educator, composer and multi-woodwind instrumentalist who explores various interdisciplinary approaches to composition and improvisation. Since starting to work as a music educator in 2012, he has developed a unique approach to teaching by listening; emphasizing peace and humanity through composition and play that is evident in his student performances. He has taught all levels of K-12 students at the Community Arts Program at CalArts, as an Artist-in-Residence at Rick Lowe’s Project Row Houses in Houston, and in various youth music programs in addition to BAMP, throughout Oakland and Alameda.
Kevin received his BFA in Jazz Reeds from California Institute of the Arts and graduated from Mills College in 2018 with an MA in Composition, studying with Roscoe Mitchell, Fred Frith, Zeena Parkins and others. He has served as a BAMP teaching artist for three years.
