Beginner and advanced choir director
Position Type: This is a part-time, hourly position that we anticipate will require 12-15 hours per week. Hours will be flexible but must accommodate afternoon, evening and/or weekend rehearsal and performance schedules.

Bay Area Music Project seeks an experienced Choir Director for both beginner and advanced levels of choir at our elementary school program site. The Choir Director will work with students in 1st - 5th grade, implementing fundamentals of vocal training, music and whole-child-centered learning.

Position Responsibilities
- Provide a safe, positive and culturally responsive learning environment where students can learn vocal fundamentals and ensemble skills
- Select repertoire suitable for children’s voices and appropriate for training students in choral singing.
- Prepare choir ensembles for community performances
- Act as a mentor and build a positive rapport with students to build classroom community
- Oversee repertoire and student placement in ensembles in collaboration with Teaching Artists
- Work with Teaching Artists to create benchmark goals and progress tracking across all ensembles
- Timely correspondence with Executive Director, Director of Operations, Teaching Artists, program staff, school staff, and parents and families
- Attend professional-development sessions and planning meetings; seek opportunities specific to music education when applicable
- Collaborate with Executive Director to oversee performance opportunities
- Has at least 1 year of experience teaching group choir lessons to students of different ages/abilities
- Knowledge of choral techniques, vocal pedagogy, and a broad range of choral repertoire for children’s choir
- Singing instruction and piano experience is preferred
- Creative, motivated and energetic
- Ability to work with a large group of students at one time
- A flexible schedule that allows for a commitment to the program for a school year
- Experience working with children from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
- Able to communicate comfortably and respectfully with students, families, and administration
- Strong organization skills, matched by a sense of humor and readiness to adapt
- Must pass live scan fingerprinting (background check) and provide negative TB tests and proof of Covid vaccination
