Bay Area Music Project (BAMP) is an El Sistema inspired after-school music education program supporting the educational and social-emotional needs of children in lower income communities by providing high-quality music instruction, nutritious snacks and homework assistance regardless of abilities and circumstances. Our staff embraces both the social and musical mission of our program — they nurture both the individual person and the musician at the same time.
Job Description
The Digital Audio Production Teaching Artist will teach elementary and middle school students how to express themselves through digital music composition as well as the technical aspects of music production. The ideal candidate will be proficient with SoundTrap DAW platform as well as traditional recording techniques. A basic understanding of music theory and MIDI keyboard use is required. Proficiency in traditional instruments such as guitar, bass, violin, cello, woodwinds, brass, drums, and piano is preferred.

Responsibilities
- Teach Music Production/Songwriting/recording skills to 15-25 students (elementary, middle, and/or high school age levels depending on school placements)
- Inspire and support students as they progress through our digital audio program
- Advise and mentor students in occasional “advanced” SoundLab projects (event-related opportunities, recording projects, group collaborations)
- Collaborate with Music Director and Teaching Artists to implement curriculum, pedagogy and values and plan combined performances
- Attend or participate as a chaperone for field trips and events as necessary
- Maintain communication with administration, families, and school site staff
- Attend staff meetings and professional development workshops as required
- Is a composer/performer/producer who is focused on digital sound creation
- Is excited about sharing the unique and experimental dimensions of electronic sound with youth
- Is committed to advancing diversity and inclusion in the music industry and to increasing the participation of individuals from groups historically underrepresented in the field
- Has experience teaching students of diverse abilities, ethnic and economic backgrounds
- Has a flexible schedule that allows for a commitment to the program for a school year
- Is motivated and passionate about impacting the lives of young people through music
- Has exceptional classroom management skills and ability to create a positive learning environment
- Strong organization skills, matched by a sense of humor and readiness to adapt
- You are a professional musician or earning a degree in music education or performance
- Must pass live scan fingerprinting (background check) and provide negative TB tests
