K-2 choral and fundamental music teaching artist

Position Type: Part-time, Non-Exempt. 8-12 hours weekly, plus occasional evening and/or weekend hours.
Hours of Work: Flexible depending on your availability.
Program hours: M, T, TH, and F, 3:00 - 6:00 pm and Wednesdays 12:30 - 6:00 pm.

Summary Position
​
Bay Area Music Project seeks a dynamic, inspiring K-2 Music Teaching Artist for its after-school program in Alameda, CA. This Teaching Artist will help students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through various planned, age-appropriate music experiences, including singing, moving to music, playing instruments and listening, and performing other duties directly related to this job description.
Position Responsibilities
  • Provide a safe, innovative and positive learning environment where students can learn vocal techniques, explore basic music theory, rhythm, and movement
  • Collaborate with the Music Director and fellow Teaching Artists to implement curriculum, pedagogy and values, music arrangements, and plan combined performances
  • Provide assessment of students’ musical and behavioral progress
  • Act as a mentor to and build a positive rapport with each student
  • Attend occasional professional development sessions and planning meetings
  • Supervise children any time outside of music instruction as necessary or directed
  • Take attendance under the guidelines provided by the Program Director
  • Assist with performances, special events and field trips
The Ideal Candidate
  • Has at least 1-year experience teaching group music lessons to students of different ages/abilities
  • Is experienced in creating and implementing culturally responsive curriculum 
  • Is passionate about creating an impact on the lives of young people through music
  • Has strong classroom management skills appropriate for early childhood-age students
  • Has a flexible schedule that allows for a commitment to the program for a school year
  • Is able to communicate comfortably and respectfully with students, families, and administration
  • Has strong organization skills, matched by a sense of humor and readiness to adapt
  • A proven ability to differentiate instruction to meet individual needs 
  • Has the ability to play at least one instrument proficiently 
  • Must pass live scan fingerprinting (background check) and provide a negative TB test
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s degree (or in progress) in music education, choral or performance
Pay
Hourly rate range $35-40/hr; based on experience
