Kindergarten Assistant Teacher

Pay Range: Hourly- $19.00 - $24.00 per hour DOE
Hours of Work:  5 days a week -Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri 1:30pm - 6:00pm Wednesdays 11:15am - 6:00pm
Reports to:    Lead Kindergarten Teaching Artist, School Site Manager, Director of Operations
Organization Overview
Bay Area Music Project (BAMP) is an El Sistema inspired after-school music education program supporting the educational and social-emotional needs of children in lower income communities by providing high-quality music instruction, nutritious snacks and homework assistance regardless of abilities and circumstances. Our staff embraces both the social and musical mission of our program — they nurture both the individual person and the musician at the same time. 
Job Description
The Assistant Teacher provides classroom support for the KinderBAMP Teaching Artists by preparing materials, positively interacting with students, and supervising projects. The Assistant Teacher will also plan and facilitate activities as needed, with opportunities to create new curriculum. The position requires patience, flexibility, strong communication and organizational skills and behavior management experience with very young children. The Assistant Teacher helps create a fun, engaging classroom environment while reinforcing rules of safety, kindness, and responsibility.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate activities for Kindergarten age students as directed
  • Assist with check-in and dismissal processes during after-school programming
  • Manage children throughout transitions between classes (i.e., snack, bathrooms, hand-washing, lining up, etc.)
  • Assist with setup and strike of equipment for daily programming
  • Engage with children to foster positive relationships
  • Supervise children during outdoor and indoor free-play time to ensure safety at all times
  • Assist with minor first-aid care
The Ideal Candidate
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • The ability to adapt, be flexible and handle changing situations and emergencies calmly and effectively
  • A sense of humor, patience and creative problem solver
  • The ability to demonstrate initiative and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to create a team-oriented environment
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (or in progress) in Early Childhood Development, or experience in related fields
  • Must pass live scan fingerprinting (background check) and provide negative TB tests
